How This Works
My website automatically scans the Dollar General website every morning between 2:30 AM and 3:30 AM, comparing current product prices to the prices recorded during the previous scan. When a price change is detected, that information is transferred into a spreadsheet that tracks the item’s pricing history. The system then filters for items that have dropped to $0.00 (penny items) and automatically adds them to my website. Because the scanner compares each item’s current price to its last recorded price, it helps prevent older penny items from being mistakenly added again and ensures that only newly identified penny items are reported. This allows for more accurate and up-to-date penny list information for shoppers.
How to Scan Penny Items Using the DG App
Always scan items in the Dollar General app before checkout. Penny items must ring up for $0.01 in the app — shelf tags and clearance stickers do not guarantee a penny price.
Scan Using the DG App Scanner
- Open the Dollar General app.
- Select the correct store.
- Tap the barcode scanner icon.
- Scan the item.
- If it shows $0.01, it’s a penny item.
Manually Enter a UPC
- Tap the scanner icon.
- Select Enter barcode number.
- Type the UPC with no spaces.
- Tap Submit barcode.
- Confirm the price shown.
Reminder: Prices can vary by store, and penny items may be pulled at any time — always scan before paying.
