What Is Seasonal vs. CORE Clearance?
Seasonal Clearance
Seasonal items are products tied to specific times of year. These are typically the first to receive deep markdowns as stores make room for new inventory.
Examples may include:
- Holiday décor
- Seasonal home items
- Themed kitchenware
- Party supplies
- Valentines Etc
CORE Clearance
CORE clearance includes non-seasonal, everyday merchandise that Dollar General is discontinuing or resetting.
This can include:
- Home goods
- Storage
- Select apparel
- Household items
- Cleaning supplies
- Personal Care Items
CORE clearance events are especially popular because these items often don’t look seasonal but can still drop to steep discounts.

TIPS & TRICKS FOR THE DOLLAR GENERAL CLEARANCE SALE

Not all Dollar General stores will look the same during a clearance event. Some locations may be fully set up with balloons, signage, and display tables, while others may have little to no indication that a sale is happening. In some cases, store associates may not even be aware of the promotion yet. This is exactly why YOU must be proactive. Don’t rely on appearances — scan, scan, scan. Use the DG app to verify prices and discounts so you don’t miss hidden markdowns and unexpected clearance finds.

During the clearance sale, discounts are based on the previous day’s price. That means the register takes 50% off whatever the item scanned for the day before the event. For example, if an item rings up at $9.00 on 02/26, it will scan at $4.50 during the sale. $4.50 is the final clearance price — not “half off $4.50.” Always scan your items to confirm the price before heading to checkout.
